Why Osaka?

Osaka, the kitchen of Japan

Osaka(大阪), the third-largest city in Japan, has long been at the center of the country's cultural and economic development. It is also regarded as one of the country's most diverse and cosmopolitan cities.

Famous for the amazing Japanese street food variety, Osaka is sometimes referred to as the food capital of Japan, as supported by its endearing nickname, Tenka no Daidokoro (天下の台所), meaning “the nation’s kitchen.”

Izakaya Toyo

Izakaya Toyo is a small street food vendor specializes in seafood, especially sushi and live-fire-torch cooking entertainment.

Address:

3-chōme-2-26 Higashinodamachi, Miyakojima Ward, Osaka, 534-0024

What I like about it

One of the most beloved stand-up snack bars in Osaka. Here you can order bright reddish-orange ikura (salmon roe), ootoro (fatty tuna), and maguro sashimi (fresh, raw tuna sliced into thin pieces). But the real show-stopper is the aburi maguro (grilled tune), the fresh, blowtorch tuna cooked in classic Toyo-san fashion.

Uncle Rikuro’s Store

Rikuro's Cheesecake is an Osaka bakery renowned Japan-wide for fresh and fluffy cheesecakes, that use a flavorful cream cheese imported directly from a long-established factory in Denmark.

Address:

11-19 Nanbasennichimae, Chuo Ward, Osaka, 542-0075

What I like about it

Serving freshly made cheesecakes, baked in the on-site oven, as well as other delicious Rikuro items. The Riku Cafe Stand is a great place to enjoy a slice of cheesecake and a drink while resting.
